Independent pizza company, Boss Pizza, has celebrated the opening of its newest store in London Road, Alvaston, near Blue Peter Island.

More than 500 people passed through the doors to make the most of opening offers, with some of the pizzas, including a 12-inch margherita, being made available for £2.

In total, more than 1,000 pizzas were sold on opening day, with the Alvaston store being the fifth Boss Pizza chain to open in the UK - but the first to open in England.

The first stores were launched in Glasgow, followed by two other stores in Hamilton.

The Derby store has created 12 new jobs in the area, something which the brand says is a sign of its "continued growth and investment in the UK".

Boss Pizza was established with a vision of producing "bigger, better quality pizzas" while meeting the "growing consumer demand", a spokesperson for the chain said.

Boss Pizza also has plans to open new stores in Sheffield, Luton and Oldham.

Ajmal Mushtaq, CEO of Boss Pizza, said: “We’re absolutely delighted with the response to our Derby launch.

"To sell over 1,000 pizzas on opening day is a testament to both our team and the appetite for quality pizza in the area.

"We’re excited to become part of the Derby community and look forward to serving our customers for many years to come.”
